It is our mission at Waverly Elementary School to create an environment of excellence in teaching and learning where students reach high academic standards and learn to be caring and responsible citizens. ~We believe that all members of our community -children and adults- possess many talents and will be provided countless opportunities to excel and achieve success.
The staff, students, and parents of Waverly Elementary School are proud of our tradition of academic excellence, utilizing exemplary practices to ensure student success. ~We value the importance of developing a caring, nurturing environment in which our students will thrive. ~As we develop responsible young citizens, we hope to cultivate a climate of openness and respect. ~We are excited about our Positive Incentives program, in which we focus upon four Waverly Wildcat behaviors: ~being responsible, being respectful, including others, and being safe. ~In addition, our Star Bully-proofing pledge promotes kindness and respectful behaviors. ~Our students will reflect upon important character attributes through our guidance and homeroom classes. We also encourage families to complete the activities sent home, which focus on these character traits.
Our strong partnership with parents contributes greatly to the success of our students. We are deeply enriched by the level of community involvement at Waverly. ~Our PTA boasts members, and actively supports many of our programs in both the related arts and academic areas of the curriculum. ~We are so grateful for this important relationship, and are especially appreciative of the many parent volunteers who assist us daily.
Waverly Elementary School has a Regional Early Childhood Center to meet the special needs of youngsters with various disabilities, ages 3-5. ~Special education and related services are provided in a variety of settings, and all classrooms include typically developing peers.
We are pleased to be a Professional Development School in partnership with Towson University, Hollifield Station Elementary, and St. John's Lane Elementary. ~Our PDS promotes learning and enhances the instructional climate of our school, while supporting the professional growth of our teaching staff and the development of teaching interns from Towson University.
